Practice Free Speech with Us!

PEG access is public access television: the P stands for Public, the E stands for Education, and the G stands for Government. Public access television allows citizens of Hawai‘i the opportunity to express their free speech rights by airing TV programs for free on our channels. The Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs (DCCA), through the Cable TV Division, handles the regulatory oversight for the PEG franchises in Hawaiʻi.

Mission & Vision

  • Nā Leo’s mission is to provide television access to facilitate diverse community dialog and educational awareness for the citizens of Hawaiʻi island. This same access is utilized for County and State Governments to communicate and provide relevant information to Hawaiʻi island residents. Our mission includes providing our citizens with great customer service, clean facilities, and modern equipment to work with.
  • Finally, our Vision is to promote the very fundamental right of free speech by allowing people to become certified and trained to use our equipment and facilities. Increasing the number of “External Producers” (EP) who create new programs and utilize our resources is a very high priority. Creating relevant and interesting internal programs and opportunities to address diverse community interest is a secondary priority.

Raise Your Voices!

Public Access Television gives everyone the opportunity to share information and events important to them, including events normally ignored or only briefly shown by the mainstream media. We give island citizens the ability to exercise their constitutional right of free speech, both by providing an open-forum TV show, Hawaii Island Speaks Out, and, most importantly, by giving residents the ability to become certified External Producers.

Create Your Masterpiece

After taking a series of classes and gaining certification, External Producers can create and air their own non-commercial shows on a wide variety of topics, such as hobbies, fiction, history, religion, and lifestyles. Certified producers can borrow video cameras and tripods to collect footage and then edit them using advanced software in our edit bays. They also can record their shows in our studio.
